Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Logistics Estimator to support our commercial operations and sales teams by developing accurate and competitive cost models for logistics scopes in complex capital equipment projects. This role is critical in optimizing transport strategies during early project phases and ensuring alignment with project requirements, timelines, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop end-to-end logistics cost estimates for our Power Plant proposals:
    • Estimates are to include heavy lift ocean freight, heavy haul & rigging, high & wide rail shipments, barge shipments, over-dimensional transport truck shipments, multimodal shipments, and freight forwarder SOW.
  • Collaborate with sales, commercial operations, project management, supply chain and engineering teams to understand project scope, equipment specifications, equipment volume, equipment origin and delivery dates/constraints.
  • Analyze transportation routes, evaluate carrier capabilities, and model contingency costs and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze proposed equipment origin and valuation data to assess potential tariff and duty costs.
  • Conduct site visits to assess route feasibility, access, staging, and jobsite conditions.
  • Work with logistics service providers and Mitsubishi Power’s Global Commodity Manager(s) to obtain budgetary quotes and develop comparative analysis for mode and routing selections.
  • Contribute to bid reviews and strategy meetings, clearly communicating logistics plans, assumptions, and cost drivers.
  • Maintain an estimating database including benchmarks, historical project costs, and supplier rate sheets.
  • Support the transition from estimate to execution by briefing the project logistics managers on key assumptions and risk areas.
  • Assist in identifying value engineering opportunities that reduce logistics cost while maintaining service quality and schedule integrity.

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in transportation estimating, project logistics, or supply chain planning for large capital projects.
  • Familiarity with heavy haul DOT regulations, barging operations, railroad operations, port operations, rigging & lifting methodologies, and multimodal transport planning.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint and experience with estimating tools or ERP platforms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% for site walks, route surveys, or customer engagement.
  • Ability to read transport drawings and interpret technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Incoterms and international logistics requirements.

Preferred:
  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent
  • Experience supporting proposal efforts for EPCs, OEMs, or project logistics freight forwarding companies.
