Yard Operator
Matalco's Franklin, Kentucky operation is growing and expanding our staffing for our talented and awesome Logistics Team. We have two positions open. See the end of this post for the work schedules. We are state-of-the-art aluminum remelt facility manufacturing ingots for our customers.
The Yard Operator is responsible for managing incoming shipments, ensuring the materials are inspected, sorted and stored correctly. Our chosen candidates will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely shipment of finished goods to customers, coordinating with other departments to meet shipping deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate commitment to health and safety as a top priority, following your training and procedures, working to promote a safe workplace, free of hazards.
- Recommend improvements to our processes and procedures.
- Deliver quality products to customers, executing your responsibilities in accordance with environmental and quality policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Assist your Team with planning and coordinating daily shipping activities, including order picking, packing, and shipping. Prioritize work to ensure orders are processed efficiently while meeting shipping deadlines. Perform quality checks on outgoing shipments to ensure accuracy and compliance with customer requirements.
- Promptly address shipping errors or issues with your Leadership Team, providing suggestions on corrective actions to prevent future recurrence.
- Assist your Leadership Team with the receipt and processing of incoming shipments, including unloading trucks and verifying contents. Inspect incoming shipments for quality and accuracy, ensuring standards and specifications are met. Document any discrepancies, damages, or quality issues, working with vendors/suppliers to resolve them. Ensure proper handling and storage of received items to prevent damage or loss.
- Assist your Leadership Team with maintaining accurate inventory records and in monitoring inventory levels, coordinating with other departments to replenish stock as needed. Participate in regular cycle counts and physical inventory audits, reconciling inventory discrepancies and ensuring inventory accuracy.
Desired Skill Set
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- At least one-year prior experience in a shipping/receiving or logistics role, with a strong understanding of shipping and receiving processes and procedures.
- Ability to work independently with tight schedules and high standards of safety and excellence.
- Ability to operate skid steer, overhead crane, loader, forklift, and combilift.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Team player with an ability work in a steady-paced and highly coordinate environment.
Physical and Sensory Efforts
Frequent visual and audio monitoring of materials processes, including inspection, scrap segregation, and inventory levels. High frequency use of forklift/mobile equipment. High frequency of lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, walking, and reaching into tight work areas. High frequent use of operating an overhead crane. Limited frequency of confined space entry. Some frequency lifting up to fifty pounds. Some frequency of climbing over four feet.
Working Conditions
Wearing of company provided PPE as required. Constant exposure to outside elements. Long-term exposure to varying temperatures, noise and some fumes.
Schedule
We have two vacant positions. One will work a Monday-Friday, day shift, typically scheduled for eight hours and overtime as needed. The other will work a 2-2-3 day shift scheduled from 6a-6p and overtime as needed.
