The Mercer Logistics & Transportation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating daily logistics operations for the feed mill. This position works closely with the Production Planner and Warehouse Manager to monitor order status, coordinate transportation, and ensure accurate and timely deliveries. The role oversees truck routing, freight scheduling, railcar logistics, DOT compliance, rental fleet management, and shipment verification to ensure operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
The Logistics & Transportation Coordinator serves as the primary point of coordination between production, warehouse operations, drivers, freight carriers, and customer service to maintain efficient product movement, and delivery accuracy.
Responsibilities:
Order Tracking & Communication
o Work closely with the Production Planner and Warehouse Manager to monitor order progress and readiness.
o Communicate order status updates to the Customer Service team.
o Confirm orders are complete before scheduling delivery.
o Coordinate shipment timing to align with production and customer delivery expectations.
Transportation & Route Planning
o Utilize StreetSync to plan and optimize Mercer truck delivery routes.
o Provide Mercer drivers with daily delivery schedules and route assignments.
o Coordinate and schedule LTL, FTL, and Customer Pick-Up (CPU) shipments.
o Adjust delivery schedules as needed based on production changes or transportation constraints.
Freight & Bulk Hauling Coordination
o Manage the bulk load schedule for outgoing product.
o Arrange freight with bulk haulers for deliveries to Mercer locations, farms, and other feed mills.
o Coordinate inbound and outbound freight transportation to maintain production flow.
Railcar Logistics
o Call in railcars as needed to support production requirements.
o Monitor railcar scheduling, arrival timing, and availability.
o Communicate railcar logistics with production and warehouse teams to ensure continuous supply.
Shipment Verification & Load Accuracy
o Verify trucks after loading to confirm all required products have been loaded correctly.
o Ensure load contents match the delivery order and paperwork.
o Confirm orders are complete before adding them to the delivery schedule.
Driver Documentation & Delivery Records
o Review driver paperwork at the end of each day.
o Confirm all delivery tickets have been submitted.
o Identify and resolve any discrepancies or missing documentation.
DOT Compliance
o Maintain working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
o Manage DOT-related documentation and compliance records for fleet operations.
o Assist with regulatory audits, inspections, and reporting requirements.
o Ensure transportation activities comply with applicable federal and state regulations.
Rental Fleet Management
o Manage company rental fleet used for transportation and logistics operations.
o Coordinate rental equipment availability and scheduling.
o Work with vendors to secure additional rental equipment when needed.
o Track usage, maintenance needs, and return schedules for rental vehicles and equipment.

This is a full-time non-exempt, hourly position with a competitive hourly rate and benefits package, which includes eligibility for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, LTD, HSA, FSA, PTO, Sick, and 401(K) programs. The hourly range set for this position is between $26 - $31 per hour.
