Wellness/PE Teacher

to join our caring staff at two elementary schools


February 24 through June 5, 2026

.7 FTE working Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Half-day Friday

Job Title: Physical Education/Wellness Teacher

Reports to: Director of Wellness and Principal

Department: Wellness

School year: February 24-June 5, 2026

FSLA Status: Per diem rate of pay

Salary Range: $192.50 per day, non-benefited


JOB GOAL:

The Wellness Teacher fosters a love of learning and movement that encourages student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners. The teacher provides learning experiences that engage students in all aspects of physical education and social-emotional learning guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, National P.E. Standards, district standards and requirements.


QUALIFICIATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
  • Professional Certification:
    • MA DESE license in Physical education K-8
    • Additional certification in special education and/or ESL and/or health education highly desirable.
  • Specialized Knowledge: child development, curriculum frameworks, growth mindset, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti-bias instruction, social-emotional learning
  • CORI and Fingerprinting: All appointments are conditional based on a satisfactory CORI and SAFIS Background Check per 603 CMR 51.00.


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience teaching English Language Learners in a diverse setting.
  • Experience teaching students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges
  • Highly desirable to have experience with:
    • Adapted Physical Education
    • Co-Teaching
    • Inquiry-based instruction & Project Based learning
    • Second Step
    • Responsive Classroom

CENTRAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

    • Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment that embraces the diversity among individuals
      and ensures equitable opportunities for student learning
    • Plan and implement differentiated lessons
    • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional design
    • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
    • Use reasoning to appropriately handle problems that arise
    • Have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues
    • Demonstrate a belief in a growth mindset for students as well as for self
    • Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts teaching method when appropriate
    • Participate in professional development activities, both internal and external, and maintain requirements for licensure recertification
    • Participate in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed
    • Any other relative duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Wellness Teacher does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff, except to direct any paraeducators who may be assigned to his/her/their classroom.


SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
