The Low-Voltage Wiring Harnesses Technician is responsible for performing inspection, repair, diagnostics, and assembly of automotive wiring harnesses and related electrical systems. This role requires proficiency in computer-based diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting, mechanical/electrical component replacement, and the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences including customers and internal teams.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform complex electrical and mechanical repairs following dealership and/or OEM standards.
- Read and interpret wiring harness schematics.
- Build wire harnesses according to schematics and engineering specifications.
- Select proper crimp tools and terminals; complete electrical connectors per specification.
- Conduct quality checks on harness builds; use standard test equipment (DMMs, oscilloscopes, probes, power supplies).
- Perform soldering on assemblies as needed.
- Conduct root-cause analysis to identify electrical defects and failure modes.
- Analyze defect data to determine occurrence trends and defect types.
- Continuously learn new wiring harness and connector technologies.
- Diagnose and repair automotive electrical systems, wiring harness installations, and related components to specification.
- Explain mechanical and electrical diagnoses to management or customers in non-technical terms.
- Identify required repairs and perform corrective actions.
- Perform standard part replacements by following the Standard Maintenance Procedure (SMP).
- May be required to lead small groups of technicians (no pay adjustment).
- Participate in ongoing technical training to stay current with evolving technologies.
- Inspect and test vehicles; record findings for necessary repairs.
- Perform work within a manufacturing environment, including assembly-line activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 2–3 years of experience building automotive or commercial vehicle wire harnesses preferred.
- ASE A6/T6 certification preferred.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Must be able to work assigned schedules, including multiple shifts, weekends, holidays, and required overtime.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy required.
- Experience in OEM or manufacturing environments preferred.
- Team-oriented, adaptable, and committed to high customer service standards.
- Working knowledge of diagnostic shop equipment.
Environmental & Physical Requirements
- Exposure to extreme temperatures and loud environments.
- Some tasks performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically demanding role requiring regular standing, bending, lifting, and movement for 8+ hour shifts.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work at heights up to 20–25 feet.
