Position Summary


This role will be responsible for placing patients on the surgery schedule, obtaining appropriate authorizations, and collecting payments.


Position Responsibilities


Standard Work: LRHPG Patient Scheduler IV
  • Provides excellent customer service while coordinating with outpatient surgical center, providers, and/or patients.
  • Places surgical procedure appointments on the schedule and ensures all block times are fully utilized as well as confirming arrival times, add-ons, and cancellations.
  • Responsible for performing all functions for registration, insurance verification, precertification/authorization, and prior benefits.
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage prior to patient’s date of service, calculate and determine patient responsibility, i.e., copayments, deductibles or non-covered benefits based off information obtained from the insurance carrier and procedure codes scheduled by the physician.
  • Collaborates with physicians and/or their office staff to ensure authorization is obtained in a timely manner as is required for scheduled procedure appointments.
  • Contacts patient in order to discuss and collect any financial responsibility to patient or guarantor as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Financial Counseling, and Surgical teams as appropriate.


Competencies & Skills


Essential:

  • Must have excellent communications and public relations skills.
  • Ability to operate a multi-line phone.
  • EPIC use 1 year or longer.
  • Knowledge of office computer systems, programs and applications such as MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Knowledge and exposure to medical terminology and experience in healthcare admissions, scheduling, authorizations, and insurance verification.


Qualifications & Experience


Essential:

High School or Equivalent

Other information:

Experience Essential:

  • Previous experience in health care setting, preferably in Scheduling or Authorizations of at least 2 years
  • Prior Customer Service experience, preferably in a call center environment of at least 2 years
  • Knowledge of patient benefits, estimates, and collecting payments

Experience Preferred:

  • Knowledge of scheduling and prior authorizations
  • Prior experience with reviewing patient benefits and collecting payments
