What You Will DoScientist 2 ($106,400 - $176,000)
The Instrumentation & Controls Group in the Accelerator Operations & Technology Division is looking for a dedicated researcher to join our Adaptive Machine Learning (AML) team. This position will contribute to our development of AI/ML-driven tools for electrodynamics, diagnostics and control of intense charged particle beams in particle accelerators, and automating the startup, tuning, and optimization of LANL's high energy particle accelerator LANSCE. ML tool development will utilize experimental data as well as synthetic data generated by particle accelerator beam dynamics codes. The successful candidate will develop ML tools that incorporate beam physics constraints to speed up computationally intensive beam dynamics simulations and to develop non-invasive diagnostics and controls for intense charged particle beams. A special emphasis will be placed on developing general foundational tools that can be applied to a wide range of systems via fast re-training, and adaptive ML tools which are robust to the time-varying nature of particle accelerator components as well as the time-varying initial beam distributions entering accelerators. A successful candidate is expected to carry out independent research including setting up and running beam dynamics simulations to generate training data.
What You NeedMinimum Job Requirements:-
Significant knowledge and experience in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, etc.
-
Significant knowledge and experience in generative AI/ML development specifically for charged particle beams in particle accelerators.
-
Significant knowledge and experience in software collaboration tools and version control such as Git.
