Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Machine Shop Lead to oversee daily operations within our manufacturing facility’s machine shop. This pivotal role combines technical expertise with leadership skills to ensure precision machining, efficient workflow, and high-quality output. As the Machine Shop Lead, you will coordinate machining activities, mentor team members, and uphold safety and quality standards. Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate machining operations on CNC milling machines, and other equipment to meet production goals.
- Lead the setup, programming, and operation of CNC machines using CNC programming, and CAM software to produce complex parts with precision.
- Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and technical drawings to ensure accurate manufacturing.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify part dimensions.
- Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing safety protocols, conducting inspections, and ensuring proper use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and tooling.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on design modifications using SolidWorks and CAD software for improved manufacturability.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflows, reduce waste, and improve overall efficiency within the machine shop.
Requirements
- Proven experience in CNC programming and operation on CNC milling machines and CNC lathes using Fanuc controls or similar systems.
- Strong mechanical knowledge with hands-on experience in machining metals or plastics injection molding components.
- Ability to read complex blueprints with GD&T specifications accurately.
- Skilled in using precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and CMMs.
- Familiarity with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes and CAM programming for complex part fabrication.
- Knowledge of welding techniques and assembly processes is a plus.
- Basic math skills for calculations related to machining tolerances and measurements.
- Ability to operate forklifts safely; certification preferred but not required.
