Machinist

Job Title: Machinist

Job Purpose:

The machinist will assist in bringing raw materials and parts from other processes to their final dimensions according to engineering drawings. This will be done using manual mills, manual lathes, CNC mills, horizontal and vertical bandsaws, and precision measuring instruments.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform various machining operations including bandsaw cutting, milling, turning, drilling, and tapping to achieve finished dimensions and tolerances according to drawings.
• Plan the order of machining operations to produce a part from a drawing.
• Deburr finished parts to remove sharp edges.
• Perform basic maintenance on machines in the shop.
• Set up vises, fixtures, and jigs for machining when necessary.
• Measure parts for accuracy and tolerance.
• Set up and run a CNC mill.
• Program parts using conversational programming at the machine.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday 7:30 to 4:30. Must be able to work overtime and weekends as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma required, trade school or technical degree in machining or fabrication preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings to make finished parts within specified tolerances.
• Knowledge of precision measurement techniques; using micrometers, dial calipers, and dial indicators.
• Must work well with others in a team.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

• Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Experience with knee mills.
• Experience with manual lathes.
• Knowledge of mechanical fits and tolerancing.
• Knowledge of conversational programming (Trak controllers.)
• Knowledge of G-code and CNC controls.
• Layout experience is a plus.
• High mechanical aptitude is a plus.

Starting pay up to $22/hour depending on experience. Opportunities for pay advancement with demonstrated performance and quality.
