Machinist - Cylindrical and Cubic Parts

Scope of the Role:

As part of a multi-functional, highly skilled, and flexible team, the Machine Shop Grinder is
a hands-on role, responsible for producing parts to a fulfil Assembly, Aftermarket and Spares requirements. Shift flexibility is vital to fulfil business needs.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be highly involved in contributing to the entire manufacturing process, from engineering design, through machining to delivery.
  • Producing complex components according to specification requirements.
  • Working from and understanding engineering drawings
  • Working and measuring to very tight tolerances.
  • Applying knowledge of materials and machining methods.
  • Work with minimal supervision and plan workload effectively to achieve targets and KPIs.
  • Experience working on bespoke parts to stringent geometric tolerances.
  • Understand, and work at all times, in line with Fives Values and Directives; specifically
following the highest standards of health and safety.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as requested.
  • Foster RFT mindset.

Technical Competencies Required:

  • Operating CNC cylindrical Studer machines. External/ Internal Grinding.
  • Proving out on CNC cylindrical Studer machines. External/ Internal Grinding.
  • Programming (Studer Win), Setting- components, grinding wheels, jigs, fixtures, chucks and working between centres
  • Working and measuring to very tight tolerances (within 5 Micron range).
  • Ability to use metrology equipment
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings,
  • Manufacturing components to achieve critical geometrical tolerancing and ensuring product conformity
  • 4yr. Time served apprenticeship certification

  • Flexibility to work to the needs of the business, including working different shift
patterns and overtime as and when required.
  • A mindset that places process optimisation, asset utilisation, and component lead
time at the forefront.
  • Able to both recognise and embrace a flexible approach, ensuring that business
commitments are fulfilled, and customer expectations are both maintained and
surpassed.
  • A number of years’ experience in operating precision CNC grinding machines.
  • Ability to work alone or part of a team.
  • Able to manage own time and meet tight deadlines.
