This classification is accountable for performing a certain level of skilled manual work in the Streets & Highways Division of Public Works. Work includes road construction work under the supervision of the Streets and Highways Supervisor and in accordance with standard practices, codes and skills, and OSHA-required safety protocols.

Employee will be required to drive, load or unload designated trucks with trailers and/or attachments (such as skid steers)

Prepares truck or equipment for operation by performing routine safety check before and after operating equipment

Performs maintenance and cleaning of designated equipment; gathering of tools, equipment, materials and supplies

Performs general carpentry, maintenance, mechanical, construction, painting, and/or tree grounds work

Performs semi- and skilled trades work

Performs other related duties as requested, including those of lower classifications

Must be willing to accept assignment to overtime for emergency duties including snow and ice removal as required, including evenings, weekends and holidays

May be assigned on the job training under the supervision of a higher classified employee
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Considerable knowledge of and ability to utilize standard tools, materials, methods and practices of manual work in a specific line of work, including operating equipment and machinery

Ability to perform heavy manual work for extended periods, sometimes under unfavorable or extreme weather conditions including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; may also require lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of materials

Operate different truck sizes; may operate CDL Trucks & Stump Grinder, motorized tools, and motorized equipment
