Position Summary

Sara Lee Frozen Bakery is committed to developing the next generation of skilled maintenance professionals. The Maintenance Technician Apprentice is an entry-level role designed to provide structured, hands-on training in industrial maintenance within a high-speed frozen bakery manufacturing environment.

Under the guidance of experienced technicians, the apprentice will learn to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve production and facility equipment while building technical skills in mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.

Shift: Monday – Thursday 5:00pm - 3:30am

Pay: $22 - $25/hour, DOE

Required: All job offers are based on the conditions that the candidate can provide proof of authorization to work legally in the United States and pass a background and drug screening, post-offer. Candidate must be at least 18 years of age.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing preventive maintenance (PM) on bakery production equipment such as mixers, proofers, ovens, conveyors, spiral freezers, and packaging systems
  • Support troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Learn and apply safe work practices, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
  • Follow all food safety and quality standards (GMPs, HACCP)
  • Accurately complete work orders and maintenance documentation in CMMS systems
  • Participate in equipment inspections, rebuilds, and installation projects
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Collaborate with production and quality teams to support efficient operations


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and desire to learn a skilled trade
  • Basic math, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to read basic technical documents or willingness to learn

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior exposure to manufacturing, maintenance, or technical coursework
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools
  • Basic understanding of electrical or mechanical systems
  • Interest in automation, PLCs, or industrial controls

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
  • Comfortable working in cold environments (refrigerated and freezer areas)
  • Comfortable working in hot environments (near industrial ovens in the summer)
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, or overtime as needed
