Under the general supervision of the Grounds Shop Lead, a Maintenance Supervisor, or Maintenance Mechanic, provides assistance with preventive maintenance, and repair and installation of mechanical and non-mechanical equipment using hand and power tools to achieve departmental objectives. Fills and transports liquid nitrogen dewars campus-wide and transfers liquid nitrogen between dewars. Maintains the campus grounds in a clean, safe, attractive condition, which includes snow and ice removal during winter weather.
Job Responsibilities:

Inspects and changes filters in air handling units and other HVAC equipment

Performs Preventive Maintenance (P.M.). Performs preventive maintenance to adjust, lubricate and clean equipment and vehicles under the supervision of the Grounds Shop Lead, a Maintenance Mechanic, or Maintenance Supervisor. Notifies his/her supervisor when preventive maintenance requirements must be updated.

Transports and fills liquid nitrogen. Monitors liquid nitrogen dewar contents campus-wide, and refills them when required. Transports liquid nitrogen for use by customers, when requested .

Repairs, dismantles and assembles equipment per manufacturer’s specifications. Troubleshoots and performs repairs under supervision of the Grounds Shop Lead, a Maintenance Mechanic, or Maintenance Supervisor. Assembles equipment under the supervision of the Grounds Shop Lead, a Maintenance Mechanic, or a Maintenance Supervisor, according to manufacturer’s manuals.

Assists other maintenance personnel as needed and when assigned

Performs campus grounds maintenance Empties exterior campus trash cans, as scheduled. Patrols all campus exterior areas to verify safe conditions and remove ice, snow and debris. Informs the Grounds Shop Lead, or Maintenance Supervisors, of safety hazards discovered.

Orders job-related material as needed Orders required maintenance parts and material under direction of a Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Mechanic, or Grounds Shop Lead. Inventories lawn care and winter grounds maintenance materials and reports status to the Grounds Shop Lead to ensure sufficient material is always available to perform duties.

Performs, other related duties, as assigned, in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department

Minimum Education and/or Training:

One-year experience in a related mechanical field preferred

This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $21.00 - $31.50 per hour for the role of Maintenance Assistant.
