Core responsibilities
- Maintenance and repair: Perform routine maintenance, inspect equipment, and diagnose and repair electrical systems, motors, lighting, and fixtures. This also includes the mechanical maintenance of electrical components like lubrication and replacing bearings.
- Troubleshooting: Quickly identify and fix problems with plant equipment, including emergency repairs, and understand the link between electrical issues and production stoppages.
- Installation: Install new electrical equipment, wiring, and control systems (like PLCs) in compliance with electrical codes.
- System upkeep: Maintain electrical systems, generators, and switchgear, and perform preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment to avoid breakdowns.
- Safety and compliance: Ensure all work complies with electrical codes and safety regulations, including the Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory.
- Collaboration and training: Work with other maintenance staff, and train less-experienced electricians or apprentices.
Industry-specific responsibilities (Textile)
- Specialized equipment: Work on specialized electrical control systems common in textile manufacturing, including those for winding, ring frames, and other machinery.
- Process control: Maintain and repair instrumentation like flow meters, thermocouples, and PLCs used in textile process control.
