An Electrical Maintenance Technician in the electroplating industry is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems that power complex metal finishing lines. This role is critical for ensuring uninterrupted production and maintaining the high-voltage rectifiers and automated control systems unique to plating environments.
Core Responsibilities
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning of specialized plating equipment, including rectifiers (AC to DC power conversion), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and process sensors.
- System Installation: Run electrical power to new or relocated plating lines, rectifiers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Preventive Maintenance (PM): Develop and execute PM schedules for electrical panels, motors, drives, and wiring systems to minimize production downtime.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical or electromechanical malfunctions in automated/semi-automatic plating lines and chemical delivery systems.
- Utility Management: Maintain electrical aspects of support utilities, such as Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), boilers, chillers, scrubbers, and air compressors.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate logs, history cards, and electrical blueprints or schematics.
Key Skills & Requirements
- Electrical Expertise: Strong knowledge of both high and low voltage systems, motors, drives, and control panels.
- Automation Knowledge: Basic to intermediate understanding of PLC and SCADA systems for troubleshooting automated line movements and chemical dosing.
- Safety & Compliance: Strict adherence to EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) protocols, especially when working around corrosive chemicals and high-voltage power sources.
- Physical Stamina: Capability to work from ladders/platforms (up to 20 feet) and lift heavy equipment (up to 25 kg) in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
