Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Engineer with a bias towards electrical maintenance and as such will be to be responsible for providing (not exhaustively) reactive and planned preventative maintenance (PPM), diagnosing and resolving issues, installation, testing and commissioning to a high standard, with a focus on energy efficiency and system optimisation.

Experience of working with ventilation systems, boilers, chillers, heat pumps, medical gas systems, emergency lighting, electrical testing, fire alarms, UPS and BMS systems would be advantageous. The role on occasions may include the need to perform tasks outside of the electrical field along with the co-ordination of small works and the supervision of contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and diagnose issues and carry out planned and preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance (RM), condition maintenance (CM), statutory inspections and non-destructive testing on all electrical systems.
  • Ensure that all repairs and installations are compliant with BS7671 wiring regulations.
  • Provide support to BMS systems with fault finding and repair on low voltage AC/DC control systems.
  • Record time and outcomes on the CAFM system.
  • Responsible for other types of maintenance, including mechanical, HVAC and building fabric.
  • Ensure that all repairs and installations are completed to suitable standards in line with industrial standards.
  • Complete suitable risk assessments and method statements prior to undertaking any work and document in full to ensure safe working practise.
  • Participate in an emergency call out service on a rotor basis.
  • Liaise with the Helpdesk and external contractors to deliver maintenance across the BRC estate to a suitable standard in accordance with the maintenance schedules.
  • Where required supervise, coordinate and manage specialist sub-contractors.
  • Supervise where required safe systems of work, ensuring they are implemented and plant, machinery, services or equipment is suitably isolated.
  • Ensure the building operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals are updated to reflect changes to building assets.
  • Plan, supervise and co-ordinate all works to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all building users and ensure there is no impact on the environment.
  • When required take meter readings for building utilities consumption.
  • Conduct regular inspections of BRC facilities to ensure the condition of building remains at a standard expected by its stakeholders and that assets remain in good working order.

This list is not exhaustive, and the successful candidate would be expected to undertake reasonable additional duties in support of the site operations as and when required.

Special Duties:

  • On call out of hours (by rota).
  • Some planned weekend work may be required

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship (or equivalent) formal training in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • City & Guilds 18th Edition
  • Inspection and Testing 2391
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety (isolations, permit to work, risk assessments, method statements)
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Experience

Essential:

  • · Experience of fault finding and maintenance of electrical systems
  • · Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems including lighting, UPS, BMS and controls, electrical installation and testing

Desirable:

  • Ability to analyse metering and energy usage data
  • Experience of general plumbing issues
  • Experience of working in occupied (ideally laboratory) facilities
  • Experience of working with building management systems (BMS), in particular Trend control systems
  • Experience of undertaking maintenance in accordance with SFG20
  • Experience of facilities management software, in particular Concept Evolution
