Key responsibilities for welder
- Reading and interpreting blueprints: Study technical drawings and specifications to understand the project requirements and plan the work accordingly.
- Fitting and assembly: Lay out, position, align, and secure metal parts together for welding using various tools, clamps, and tack-welds.
- Welding and cutting: Use different welding techniques (like arc, gas, or TIG) and equipment, such as torches, and powered saws, to cut and fuse metal components.
- Quality control: Inspect and measure welded surfaces and assembled parts to ensure accuracy, proper fit, and conformance to specifications, sometimes using precision measuring instruments.
- Safety and maintenance: Adhere to all safety protocols, maintain equipment, and keep the work area clean.
- Material preparation: Prepare metal surfaces and materials for the welding process.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair faults with equipment and perform routine maintenance on machinery.
Key responsibilities for Fitter
- Assembly and installation: Putting together and installing machinery, mechanical systems, and structural components using precision tools.
- Reading and interpreting plans: Reviewing blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements.
- Fabrication and repair: Cutting, shaping, drilling, and grinding metal parts to fabricate or repair components. This can include welding and pipework.
- Maintenance: Performing regular maintenance checks and repairs on machinery and equipment to ensure proper functionality.
- Quality control: Inspecting parts for accuracy, clearance, and fit, and ensuring the final product meets specifications.
- Safety compliance: Adhering to all health and safety standards, often wearing personal protective equipment like goggles, masks, and earplugs.
- Troubleshooting: Identifying and rectifying malfunctions or issues with mechanical systems.
