As the Maintenance Manager you will play a critical role in ensuring the plant’s mechanical, electrical and utility systems are operating reliably and in compliance with UAE regulations.

Purpose of Role

The Maintenance Manager will be responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities of the plant including machinery, utilities (chillers, ACs, AHUs), electrical systems, and associated infrastructure. You will lead the Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance team (technicians, engineers) to ensure high uptime, safe operations, preventative maintenance, and regulatory compliance (including energy audits and UAE legal regulations).

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement the maintenance strategy for the plant to maximize availability, minimize downtime and optimize lifecycle costs of equipment.

Lead, supervise and mentor the Maintenance team (Electrical & Mechanical) – including supervisors, engineers and technicians.

Plan, schedule and track preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of machinery, utilities (chillers, air-conditioning, air handling units), electrical distribution systems, motor control centers, HVAC, compressors and plant ancillary equipment.

Ensure spare parts inventory, maintenance tooling, and reliability improvement planning are maintained.

Monitor key maintenance metrics (e.g., MTBF, MTTR, downtime, maintenance cost per unit output) and report to senior management.

Coordinate shutdowns, major overhauls and installation of new equipment with production, engineering and external contractors.

Ensure compliance with UAE regulations, local standards and best practices for utilities, energy efficiency, and safety – including conducting or supporting energy audits, liaising with regulatory bodies and keeping abreast of UAE laws relevant to utilities, maintenance and industrial operations.

Manage vendor/contractor relationships when outsourcing maintenance or specialist services; ensure compliance with safety, quality and cost agreements.

Develop and enforce maintenance procedures, safety protocols, permit-to-work systems, and ensure the team adheres to safe working standards.

Interface with production, engineering, procurement and quality teams to ensure maintenance aligns with business objectives, product quality and delivery commitments.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives in maintenance practices, reliability engineering, root-cause failure analysis (RCFA) and condition monitoring systems.

Maintain documentation of maintenance activities, equipment history, regulatory compliance records and audit trails.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or equivalent.

Minimum 10 years’ experience in maintenance management within an industrial/manufacturing environment (preferably in PET/plastics or FMCG sectors).

Proven experience in UAE market (UAE plant experience) is essential, including working knowledge of UAE laws/regulations related to utilities, energy audits, maintenance and industrial safety.

Strong knowledge of utility systems (chillers, HVAC, AHUs, electrical distribution, MCCs) and manufacturing machinery.

Experience leading a multi-discipline maintenance team (electrical & mechanical), including engineers and technicians.

Familiar with maintenance strategy development, KPIs, reliability engineering, preventative/predictive maintenance and shutdown planning.

Excellent vendor/contractor management skills.

Strong communication, leadership, organizational and analytical skills.

Fluent in English; knowledge of Arabic is a plus.

Understanding ISO standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 22000, BRC in the plant context) would be an advantage given the company’s certifications.

Reporting & Team Structure

Reports to: General Manager Plant Operations

Direct/Indirect Reports: Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance Engineers, Supervisors, Technicians.

Works closely with: Production, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, HSE (Health-Safety & Environment) teams.

Working Conditions

The role is based in a manufacturing plant setting Abu Dhabi.

Must be available for emergencies as plant operate in multiple shifts.

Occasional travel to UAE regulatory bodies, vendors and contractors.

Hands-on involvement at machines during shutdowns and major maintenance events.
