Key Responsibilities1.
Planning and Supervision
- Plan, schedule, and oversee electrical projects from design to completion.
- Allocate resources, manpower, and materials for electrical works.
- Supervise electrical engineers, technicians, and contractors.
- Review and approve electrical design drawings and layouts.
2. Maintenance and Operations
- Ensure proper maintenance of electrical systems, machinery, and power distribution networks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults, breakdowns, and equipment failures.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.
- Monitor energy consumption and suggest optimization methods.
3. Safety and Compliance
- Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety codes, standards, and regulations (such as IEC, IS, NEC, etc.).
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
- Ensure all team members are trained in electrical safety procedures and lockout-tagout (LOTO) practices.
- Maintain records of inspection, testing, and calibration of electrical equipment.
4. Budgeting and Cost Control
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, and project timelines.
- Manage procurement of electrical materials and equipment.
- Control project costs and reduce wastage of resources.
- Evaluate and negotiate contracts with vendors and subcontractors.
5. Coordination and Communication
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, and instrumentation teams for integrated project execution.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities.
- Provide regular progress reports to senior management.
- Resolve technical and operational issues promptly.
6. Technical Expertise
- Stay updated on new electrical technologies, automation systems, and energy-efficient solutions.
- Approve designs, specifications, and technical documents.
- Ensure system reliability and improve performance through innovative methods.
7. Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance logs.
- Prepare incident reports, test results, and performance summaries.
- Ensure documentation complies with company and statutory requirements.
Additional (Industry-Specific) Responsibilities
- Construction Projects: Oversee installation of electrical wiring, switchgear, lighting, and control systems.
- Manufacturing Plants: Maintain electrical drives, motors, PLCs, and power systems to ensure continuous production.
- Utilities/Power Plants: Manage power generation, distribution, and transmission systems.
Typical Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- 7–15 years of experience in electrical operations, maintenance, or project management.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, PLC, SCADA, and electrical codes/standards.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
