Summary: Blue Ridge Industries is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic who is responsible for performing emergency and scheduled maintenance activities on company facilities and equipment (including injection molding machines, dryers, robots, chillers, forklifts, and more) under the direction of the Technical Operations Manager. The Maintenance Mechanic maintains systems and equipment through restoring, repairing, rebuilding, or replacing faulty or inoperative components or parts. This position is responsible for maintaining safe working conditions and making sure all equipment is fully operational.
Duties:
- Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures in compliance with legal codes and regulations on all work projects.
- Coordinate with vendor contractors as required.
- Perform non-planned maintenance on production machinery.
- Perform planned maintenance, including preventive maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
- Assist in the modification of existing equipment and the installation of new manufacturing equipment.
- Perform basic troubleshooting on manufacturing equipment.
- Fabricate auxiliary equipment and processing aids.
- Support safety and cost savings programs by serving on safety committees and teams and making suggestions for cost reductions in its production operations.
- Record information as required by the Company’s work order system.
- Instruct other employees in the operation and function of production machines.
- Assist other mechanics and production employees in repair tasks as required.
- Report conditions requiring maintenance attention or other corrective action.
- Assist in the plant housekeeping.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities offered by Blue Ridge Industries.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Education: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and extensive related experience and/or training in the operations of maintenance. Must have good mechanical aptitude with a basic knowledge of power transmission, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanisms, and electrical controls; be familiar with and be proficient in the use of most hand tools used in maintaining a light manufacturing operation; able to understand and work to maintenance instructions contained in machine manuals and manufactures’ documentation; possess a working knowledge of the operation of basic machine tools; be a self-starter requiring minimal supervision.
- Language Skills: Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Must be able to interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions. Must understand and be able to comprehend Blue Ridge Industries’ Quality Policy. Must possess basic math skills to satisfy job duties.
- Environmental Conditions: Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Individual may be exposed to wet, hot, cold, and/or humid conditions and must be able to adapt accordingly.
- Equipment Usage: Desirable to be familiar with injection molding machines. Must pass BRI forklift training and be able to operate forklifts. Must comply with quality and safety regulations regarding gloves, safety toe shoes and safety glasses. Must possess a working knowledge of the operation of basic tools.
- Physical Activity: Must be able to walk, talk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs frequently. Must be able to climb and work at heights above 4 feet.
- Vision Requirements: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
