Maintenance Mechanic

Shipping/Receiving & Facilities Manager


Hours of Work:

7:00 – 3:30 – occasional overtime when needed

Job Summary:

Repair, maintain, and setup food production machines. Analyze root cause of defect, dismantle, repair, order parts, reassemble using hand tools and power tools. Work in a clean food environment. Requires proactive, innovative, and analytical individual who can perform in a fast-paced, work environment. Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding, machining, fabrication, and ability to read and interpret written instructions and blueprints is necessary

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, setup, program, test, operate and troubleshoot all equipment to endure production goals are met
  • Perform machine setup, troubleshooting, and repairs to machinery and facilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance of equipment but not limited to mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting and repair of packaging and production machines
  • Perform more advanced mechanical repairs such as replacing bearings, worn gears, gear boxes, chains, etc.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal, equipment issues with management and be able to work effectively with interdepartmental groups
  • Document all repairs by maintaining maintenance logs
  • Identity parts needed for repairs, complete requisition to place order, follow up with parts delivery and install new parts
  • Ability to utilize equipment schematics and assembly plans to effectively troubleshoot electromechanical problems
  • Able to perform more complicated electrical/electronic repairs, requiring the use of test equipment such as DVM, and ammeter
  • Operate hand, power, and bench tools, use proper safe machine shop practices
  • Installation of new production/automation equipment
  • Responsible for working safely and maintain a clean working environment
  • Comply with OSHA Safety and Health regulations, and all company, USDA, FDA regulations for food plants. This requires the understanding of HACCP and SSOP plans and the ability to comply with these regulations
  • Perform all tasks in a safe manner. Report all safety hazards to management so that corrective action can be taken immediately.
  • Good attendance and reporting to work on-time is required to do this job satisfactorily.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) and technical schooling: Required
  • 4 plus years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably food industry
  • Basic computer skills to input data in Preventive Maintenance Manuals and plugging into machines for repairs
  • OSHA 10 hours certification, Forklift, scissor lift certification, Electrical E2 not required but desired. Vocational/trade school diploma desired
  • Mechanical aptitude. Ability to work independently with little to moderate technical direction. Ability to communicate effectively: read, write, and understand English.
  • Self-driven and results orientated personality Ability to switch working priorities in a fast-paced environment Hours are variable, depending on production. Supply hand tools. Power tools are supplied by the company.
  • Ability to read, write and process all instructions. Ability to verbally communicate effectively with others.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical manufacturing environment, 50 degrees in production room, occasional work in the cooler which can be 35 degrees and work in freezer at 0-5 degrees.
  • Frequent periods of standing, walking, squatting, sitting, manually manipulating, reaching etc.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at times, Push/Pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Vision (Near, Distance, Peripheral, Depth)
  • Sense of Sound - Ability to hear machinery and warehouse equipment
  • Sense of Smell, Touch and Balance
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - food safety clothing
