Maintenance Mechanic Helper

Under close supervision, assists in the performance of a variety of electrical, air conditioning, carpentry, plumbing, painting and MHE maintenance.

Completion of high school or equivalent with emphasis on mechanical areas or grade school graduation preferred. Six months general work experience and six months specialized experience in some type of craft/maintenance work. Knowledge in the use of various trade tools, with one year of work in general maintenance or repair is desirable.

If a sufficient number of qualified candidates do not apply, the minimum qualifications may be lowered without reposting.

MONDAY TO FRIDAY 0700-1600. SOME OVERTIME MAY VARY DEPENDING ON FACILITY NEEDS.

1. Remove and install industrial batteries in various types of material handling equipment (MHE) utilizing a hydraulic battery-handling machine, electric chain hoist, and/or electric pallet jack (training will be provided).

2. Assist forklift operators in removing/reinstalling battery connections as needed.

3. Rotate batteries in/out of charging stations as directed.

4. Utilize cell equalizer system to maximize life of batteries.

5. Make repairs to battery connections and battery terminals.

6. Clean/wash industrial batteries as needed.

7. Perform specific gravity tests and other PM-related duties on battery cells.

8. Clean and maintain battery room as well as any assigned equipment.

9. Other related duties as assigned.
