This is skilled manual work in the alteration, maintenance and repair of municipal buildings, facilities, and grounds. Work involves the use of skilled trade knowledge in building structures, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to install, clean, repair and replace various facility components. Work may include drywall repair, painting, carpentry, HVAC troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance, as well as reading manuals, blueprints, and schematics and the skilled use of a variety of tools. In addition to skilled trade duties, employees are expected to perform custodial and general upkeep tasks as needed to help maintain a clean, safe, and functional environment. The position requires physical ability, strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, versatility, self-motivation, and productivity, and may require overtime or callback hours, including nights and weekends, to address urgent repairs outside of the regularly scheduled shift at the discretion of management.

Salary: $23.83 - $33.77 Hourly

To Qualify


Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Have at least two (2) years performing building maintenance, or a skilled trade in electrical, plumbing, or mechanical systems.
  • Have considerable experience in performing skilled work in painting and carpentry.
  • Be able to perform custodial and general upkeep duties as needed to maintain clean and safe facilities.
  • Be able to read and interpret manuals, work orders, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Be able to safely use hand and power tools and perform physical labor, including lifting, climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Be able to use computers, tablets, or mobile devices, including Microsoft Office applications and a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), to receive assignments, enter work orders, and complete basic documentation.
  • Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Be able to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have completed trade school or vocational training in facilities maintenance, HVAC, carpentry, or a related field.
  • Have experience working in municipal, governmental, commercial, or institutional facilities.
  • Have experience with preventative maintenance programs and work order or CMMS systems.
  • Have knowledge of applicable safety practices, building codes, and regulations.
