Maintenance Mechanic II

This is skilled manual work at the journeyman level in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of Fire Rescue Department facilities, mechanical equipment, lawn sprinkling systems, grounds, and other related projects. Work involves the use of skilled trade knowledge to install, clean, repair and replace various facility components such as doors, fencing, mechanical systems and irrigation systems. Work may also include reading manuals, blueprints, and schematics to determine installation and repair needs; skilled use of a variety of tools; other skilled work including painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and mechanical repairs; and preventative and scheduled maintenance. Work is often performed outdoors and occasionally in inclement weather. Work may involve lead worker responsibility over one or more skilled workers on an assigned project.

Salary: $23.83 - $33.77 Hourly

To Qualify


  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Obtain and maintain a State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver License within 12 months of appointment to the position.
  • Have at least three years of experience performing two or more of the trades involved (which may include, but are not limited to painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, mechanical repair, and irrigation system maintenance).
  • Have considerable experience in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in the related trades.
  • Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.


Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have considerable knowledge of municipal building codes.
  • Have considerable experience performing related tasks while working from general instructions, sketches, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Have some experience leading and training skilled workers engaged in maintenance activities.
  • Are able to make accurate labor and material costs estimates.
  • Have some skill in the use of a personal computer.
