Maintenance Mechanic II (Aquatics)

This is skilled manual work in the alteration, maintenance and repair of municipal aquatic facilities. Work involves the use of skilled trade knowledge to install, clean, repair or replace various facility components. Facilities may include fencing, lawn sprinkling systems, plumbing components, electrical fixtures, and other building components such as doors, windows, hardware, trim work and painting. Work requires the ability to read and understand manuals, blueprints and schematics to determine assembly or repair needs; skilled use of a variety of tools; skill in performing painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and welding tasks; and the ability to address preventative and scheduled maintenance. Work may involve supervision of one or more semi-skilled workers performing routine assignments and special projects; and monitoring and inspection of work performed by independent outside contractors in and around the aquatic facilities. Because of the critical responsibilities of this class, an employee in this class will on occasion be required to report to work outside of the regularly scheduled shift to address scheduled maintenance or urgent repairs at the discretion of management.

Salary: $23.02 - $32.63 Hourly

To Qualify


Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Possess and continue to maintain certification from the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF) as a Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
  • Have at least 18 months of experience as a skilled trade worker in one or more of the following trades: carpentry, painting, masonry, mechanical repairs, and/or minor welding.
  • Have considerable knowledge of pool water chemistry.
  • Be able to test pool water and make correct adjustments to maintain Department of Health water chemistry ranges through the addition of water treatment chemicals by manual dosing or automated chemical feeders.
  • Have considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of pool heating and cooling equipment.
  • Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Successfully meet the State of Florida good moral character and Level II background screening standards (Florida State Statutes 435.01-435.06).

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have some skill using a personal computer.
  • Have some supervisory experience.
  • Have journeyman level experience in plumbing, mechanical repair, and masonry work.
