Maintenance Mechanic- YOUTH JUSTICE & EDUCATION CENTER (Corrections)

Position Summary

Works under general supervision to perform repair and maintenance work and perform other generalized duties in the operations of county facilities.

Pay Grade: 47H

Minimum Qualifications

1. Two (2) years of experience as a maintenance mechanic; AND

2. High school diploma or possess a GED.

3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs various general maintenance and/or mechanical duties as they relate to the specific position.

2. Replaces defective electrical switches and other fixtures.

3. Paints walls, floors, woodwork and fixtures of buildings, using spray guns and brushes.

4. Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators and open clogged drains using plumber's tools.

5. Replaces and repairs brick and plaster walls.

6. Keeps records and makes reports.

7. Makes minor plumbing, mechanical, electrical and carpentry repairs.

8. Makes or repairs counters, benches, partitions, using appropriate tools.

9. Assists higher skilled maintenance personnel.

10. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

KSAs

1. Advanced knowledge of common practices, methods and materials for maintenance of buildings and construction work.

2. Ability to work tactfully and courteously with others.

3. Ability to complete reports and requisitions.

4. General knowledge of wood and metal tools and instruments and their maintenance and use.

Physical Requirements

Must pass a physical examination.

Special Requirements

1. Must be able to function in a prison environment.

2. Must have a valid Tennessee driver’s license or secure one by date of employment.

3. Must be able to work all shifts, weekends, and on-call, as required.

4. Must pass an NCIC background check.

5. Must successfully pass a drug test.
