Maintenance Specialist I

Perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or vocational school training. Hands-on-experience necessary.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Florida Driver's License, HIV Course, CDL P/S

A Confidentiality Agreement is required and must be signed upon commencement of service.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Makes repairs on buildings and equipment

a. thorough understanding of electric

b. thorough understanding of plumbing

c. thorough understanding of construction

d. repair equipment as needed

2. Paint as needed

a. thorough understanding of various plastering/patch materials and their application

b. thorough understanding of painting materials and their application

3. Maintain air conditioners every month

a. clean coils as needed

b. change filters as needed

c. flush drain pans as needed

d. change belts as needed

4. Keep grounds and patios neat and orderly, free of litter

a. remove and dump trash

b. wash table and chairs when needed

c. mow lawns as needed

5. Security

a. respond to staff requests to assure that only authorized persons are on

BCC premises

b. to the extent possible, assist in securing patients, staff and facilities in

the event of a fire or fire alarm.

6. Prepare facilities for hurricanes

a. shutter buildings

b. stock buildings as needed

c. assist in moving children as needed

d. assist in moving equipment and supplies as needed

7. Maintain storage areas

a. inventory availability of storage space

b. keep storage areas neat and accessible

8. Assist with other duties needed/assigned such as but not exclusive to

a. mopping/cleaning

b. moving office furniture and equipment

c. remove or exterminate pests (e.g. stray animals, ants) as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Step Up Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (Pre-K up to 8th grade). We offer Private Therapy Services for those that qualify. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included.
  • Early Learning Coalition of Broward County School Readiness Program (for children ages 1 up to 3 years old). Early Steps Therapy Services for those that qualify. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included.
  • Employee Daycare (for ages 1 year through 5 years old), available at $150 per week, inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
  • Broward County Non-School Days: We offer our employees childcare when Broward County has non-school days (winter break, spring break, thanksgiving break), with the exception of major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas day, etc.).
