POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Supervisor oversees the day-to-day maintenance operations of the Miami Beach Convention Center. This role leads a team of skilled technicians and tradespeople to ensure all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems operate at peak performance. The Maintenance Supervisor coordinates preventive maintenance programs, responds to emergency repairs, supports event operations, and ensures full compliance with safety codes and South Florida regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & Supervision

- Supervise, schedule, and evaluate maintenance technicians, electricians, plumbers, and HVAC technicians across multiple shifts

- Conduct staff meetings, performance reviews, and ongoing training

- Coordinate contractor and vendor activities to ensure quality and adherence to MBCC standards

- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Facility Operations & Preventive Maintenance

- Develop and manage a comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) program for all building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, elevators, and life safety systems

- Utilize CMMS software to schedule, track, and document all work orders, inspections, and maintenance activities

- Monitor building automation systems (BAS/BMS) and respond to alarms and equipment failures promptly

- Oversee routine maintenance of exhibit halls, meeting rooms, pre-function spaces, loading docks, parking structures, and exterior grounds

Event Support

- Coordinate maintenance support for events of all sizes including large-scale trade shows, conventions, and public events

- Work closely with event operations, AV, and client services teams to ensure all systems are fully operational during events

- Oversee temporary utility connections and post-event restoration of spaces

Compliance, Safety & Sustainability

- Ensure compliance with Miami-Dade County building codes, OSHA, NFPA, and ADA requirements

- Maintain all required inspection logs, permits, and regulatory documentation

- Serve as primary contact during building inspections by municipal authorities

- Champion MBCC sustainability initiatives including energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction

- Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations

Budget & Procurement

- Assist in preparing and managing the annual maintenance department budget

- Obtain competitive bids and manage vendor/contractor relationships

- Manage inventory of tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- Associate's degree in Facilities Management, Building Trades, Engineering Technology, or related field; equivalent experience considered

- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible facilities/building maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role

- Demonstrated knowledge of commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems

- Proficiency with CMMS software (e.g., Maximo, Archibus, or similar)

- Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field

- Experience in a convention center, arena, hotel, or comparable high-traffic venue

- Florida-licensed Journeyman or Master Electrician or Plumber

- EPA 608 Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification

- OSHA 30-Hour Certification

- Certified Facilities Manager (CFM) or Facilities Management Professional (FMP) designation

- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays required based on event schedule; on-call availability for emergencies

- Work performed indoors and outdoors in Miami Beach's subtropical climate

- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand/walk for extended periods

- Salary: $65,000 – $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience
