POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Maintenance Technician position aims to ensure that all facilities are maintained to provide clean, safe, efficient, environmentally healthy, and structurally sound facilities that offer staff and members the best possible atmosphere. Responsibilities include performing troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs on buildings, HVAC systems, fire systems, furnishings, grounds maintenance, and equipment maintenance. Our Maintenance Technicians are a key part of our organization’s success. They are our repair leaders who provide the technical know-how behind each facility. From HVAC to plumbing to a fresh coat of paint, Maintenance Technicians have a hand in every facility and every member’s satisfaction. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs backwash of pools, checking and adding chemicals, and responds to pool maintenance emergencies
  • Area re-lamping with Lock Out Tag Out Procedures
  • Ensure quality standards, policy, procedural, safety, and security standards are being met
  • Communicates with Director and staff promptly regarding maintenance and repair issues.
  • Completes minor repair work, which includes painting, carpentry, repairing doors, locks, door frames, and handles as well as replacing light bulbs, sockets, switches, and window glass
  • Performs basic plumbing tasks, including unclogging drains and fixing leaking faucets and toilets.
  • Purchases maintenance supplies for the facility while staying within the planned budget.
  • Assists with snow removal
  • Prioritize which assigned maintenance has need to be completed daily and respond to the routine and service requests as timely as possible.
  • Responds to unexpected emergencies such as power outages, equipment failures, damage to buildings, security breaches, and water and sewage concerns. Will be assigned to be on call after hours.
  • Flexible and able to juggle multiple priorities and smoothly interact with members and staff.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, including the use of a back brace, safety goggles, and gloves when appropriate
  • Monitoring and upkeep of all building facilities including sidewalks, street property, parking lot, and landscaped areas
  • Other duties as required.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Working with cleaners, pool chemicals, and understanding labels
  • Lifting over 50 lbs.
  • Utilizing ladders according to proper safety standards
  • Able to read and understand chemical labels, directions, and dilution/mixture ratios and recommendations
  • Capable of reading, comprehending, and complying with policy, procedural, safety, and security guidelines concerning the organizational, building, and ground perspectives
  • Responsible for understanding the SDS sheets

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum age of 21
  • 2 years of hands-on general maintenance experience
  • Competence with all basic building maintenance skills to include, but not limited to, Carpentry, Electrical systems, Fire/Safety systems, Plumbing, HVAC, Painting, and Grounds Maintenance
  • Knowledge and skill in the types and uses of small hand-held tools, power tools, lock and lock assemblies, and painting materials preferred
  • Knowledge of state and local laws, rules, regulations, and codes governing buildings, electrical systems, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and landscaping in connection with maintenance tasks including but not limited to machine operation, climbing equipment (ladders, scaffolds, rigging, etc.), hand-tools, chemical solvents, and cleaning agents preferred
  • The ability to lift heavy objects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid understanding of health and safety regulations and practices preferred
  • Computer literate with capability in email, MS Office, and related communication tools
  • Must be well organized, ability to prioritize tasks, and have great time management skills
  • Ability to drive an automobile. (This position is required to drive to various properties as needed)
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION:
I will support the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region’s commitment to child abuse prevention by:
  • Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
  • Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
  • Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
  • Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests to your supervisor
The YMCA has zero tolerance for abuse. We will report all suspected and/or allegations of abuse to the state and federal law.
CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Complete Hazardous Communications, Harassment Prevention, Blood-borne Pathogens, and Child Abuse Prevention training and attend Living Our Cause/Engaging our members at the time of hire
  • CPO Certified (within 6 months of hire)
  • Maintain CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer every year
  • Maintain First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen every 2 years
  • Blood-borne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year
