POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance duties for the Library’s facilities, including plumbing, electrical, flooring, and carpentry work.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of standard methods and techniques of building trades, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, masonry, carpentry, and painting.
2. Knowledge of governmental codes and regulations affecting building and maintenance repair, including national electrical and plumbing codes, OSHA laws, and other fire and safety regulations and procedures.
3. Skill in customer service.
4. Ability to handle manual and powered tools and equipment, such as hand tools, electricians and plumber’s tools, saws and drills, etc.
5. Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams, drawings, prints, and schematics.
6. Ability to recognize emergency situations and act accordingly.
7. Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision.
8. Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs and assists staff in building repair, preventive maintenance, and all general maintenance job duties throughout the Library system.
2. Checks lighting, changes bulbs, and repairs ballasts and light switches.
3. Replaces electrical breakers.
4. Checks electrical devices such as outlets and switches to ensure proper function.
5. Installs/replaces floor tiles, carpet, and ceiling tiles.
6. Resets boilers and breakers.
7. Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators and other plumbing equipment. Opens clogged drains.
8. Paints walls, floors, woodwork, furniture, and fixtures.
9. Changes and installs all types of door and window hardware.
10. Repairs compact shelving.
11. Lifts and assembles cubicles and furniture. Moves furniture and other office equipment.
12. Prepares paperwork associated with work orders and property transfers.
13. Compiles material lists, initiates orders for parts and materials, picks up parts and materials and verifies shipments.
14. Performs emergency snow plowing and salting using a truck with a snowplow and spreader.
15. Repairs and replaces brick, drywall, plaster, and concrete work.
16. Supports and advances the Library’s mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information.

18. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: High School diploma [or equivalent] or technical/trade school certification is required.
- Certifications or licensure: A driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Library’s insurance provider are required.
- Years of relevant experience: Two or more years is preferred.
- Years of experience supervising: None.
Hours:
40 hours per week, including on-call rotation
Salary:
Grade 6: $21.53 - $26.38 based on experience
