MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

WORK SCHEDULE FOR THE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN ROLE WILL BE MONDAY-FRIDAY 10AM-7PM

SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician may perform work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to maintain the effective operation of the Haven for Hope property. Ranging from routine maintenance of all necessary equipment used and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed to maintain the physical conditions of the buildings and grounds of the campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use of tools ranging from common hand or power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saw drills or wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of the buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Inspect, operate or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them in order for it to be operational order.
  • Replace and repair lawn equipment, equipment parts, using hand tools, power tools and reassemble equipment.
  • Inspect grounds daily to ensure adequate upkeep, notes for needed improvements.
  • Maintains the work area free of trash or hazardous conditions
  • Keeps inventory of equipment
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

EDUCATION

  • Minimum: High School Graduate or GED
  • Preferred: A current, valid Plumber or Electrician or HVAC license from the State of Texas or the City of San Antonio
  • Or Completion of the Carpenter Apprenticeship Certification process as recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor or Carpenter’s Union
  • Or Equivalent training and/or certification, licensing etc., locksmith or painting

EXPERIENCE

  • 5 years General Maintenance

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of safety, OSHA regulations
  • Knowledge of construction/maintenance repairs and procedures in general maintenance
  • Considerable knowledge of all tools and equipment used in various trades
  • Skill in effective planning and organizing maintenance activities
  • Ability to promote efficiency, teamwork and interaction with staff and partners
  • Skills in oral and written communication and computer literacy

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License, a good driving record, reliable transportation and proper insurance coverage on automobile used for work. Monthly reimbursement for applicable and documented work related expenditures is provided. Travel within the city and its surrounding areas will be required (if applicable).

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. frequently; climbs ladders (unassisted up to (8) feet and higher with assistance
  • Works in high places, cramped quarters and under buildings and inclement weather (hot, cold, dry and damp). Walks, stands, kneels, stoops, bends and squats for prolonged periods
  • May be exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, dust and fumes
  • Shift work may be required and must be able to respond to after-hour emergencies

Standard physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting, basic motor skills to access computer files for information or simple data entry.
