Position Summary: Perform routine or extensive work in the repair and general maintenance of machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment. Duties may involve pipe fitting; boiler making; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs.
Position Responsibilities: Machinist, Electricians, Shop Personnel

Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.

Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.

Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.

Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.

Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.

Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.

Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.

Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.

Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
Position Responsibilities: Baler, Recycling Operations

Operates cardboard baler to compress and secure loads for recycling.
-
Administers all recycling operations, including wood, pallets, metal, fabric, cutting by-product and refuse/trash.

Operators a powered industrial truck (PIT) fork truck or pallet jacks to accomplish tasks.
-
Assists in the delivery of work at VGM plant from downstairs to upstairs as needed using PIT.
-
Serves as on-call PIT operator as directed by Maintenance Manager.

Maintains neat and orderly work station.
-
Maintain storage areas to ensure inventory is protected.
-
Wears required safety glasses and other PPE as required; works safely and reports unsafe conditions to Dept. Supervisor.

Performs other duties as required by supervisor.

Physical demands and work environment:
Lift / Carry: ability to lift boxed or unboxed items weighing less than 100 lbs. frequently; team lift great weights or use mechanical lifting devices.-
Standing: Must be able to stand 4+ hours. Alternates frequently between standing and sitting.

Reach / Handle / Grasp / Feel: Repetitive motions of reach, handle, grasp to move banded, loose, boxed and unboxed items by hand or with loading / unloading tools; pallet jack, hand truck, forklift, etc.

Tool Usage: Required to use box utility knife, scissors, and weighing, measurement tools, and hand truck, forklift or pallet jack throughout the shift.
