GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge: Associate degree from an accredited college or university in an automotive technology, diesel technology, fleet maintenance, or related technical field is strongly preferred. Graduation from an accredited automotive or diesel institute is also preferred. Additional related work experience, technical certifications, or demonstrated leadership and training experience may, at the sole discretion of the Company, be considered in lieu of formal education. Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures, shop safety standards, diagnostic practices, preventive maintenance programs, and repair documentation is required.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a maintenance department, fleet maintenance operation, service shop, or related technical environment required. Prior supervisory, lead technician, mentoring, or trainer experience is strongly preferred. Experience developing technicians, conducting hands-on training, performing quality inspections, and supporting maintenance process improvements is preferred.
Skills: Must have well-refined verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical procedures to employees with varying levels of experience. Organization skills and a self-directed work ethic are essential. Must be a strong communicator with effective listening, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills. Able to prepare and present clear, concise, and accurate reports to members of management. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel programs is required. Experience with maintenance software, work order systems, inspection platforms, or fleet management systems is preferred.
Physical Demands/Work Environment: Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled. Vision, hearing, speech, and manual dexterity are required. A valid North Carolina CDL driver's license is required, or the ability to obtain one within a timeframe established by the Company. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret maintenance records, technical manuals, safety procedures, inspection reports, and general operational information. This position may require time in both office and shop environments. Exposure to normal maintenance shop conditions, vehicles, equipment, tools, noise, fluids, and other related conditions may occur. Other normal office-related and shop-related physical demands may be necessary.
Mental Demands: Must have the ability to listen, reason, think, concentrate, and interact professionally with employees, management, vendors, and other departments. The ability to exercise self-control, sound judgment, and work under stressful conditions is necessary, particularly in employee relations, training, deadline-driven, or operational situations. Must be able to coach employees through performance challenges while maintaining fairness, professionalism, and consistency.
