Maintenance WTP Mechanic II (2 openings) (Stiles Plant)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Maintenance Foreman at the Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Public Works Division. Performs more complex tasks in installing, maintaining and repairing mechanical and electromechanical machinery and equipment used in large volume wastewater treatment plants. Dismantles, or partially dismantles electric motors, turbines, engines, transmissions, hydraulic valves, meters, gages, and other equipment to gain access to or remove faulty parts. Uses hand and power tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and hoists. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Inspects machine and equipment periodically. Lubricates moving parts or replacing worn parts to prevent breakdown or malfunctioning. Interprets schematics and operation manuals to determine location, size, and type of parts. Operating facilities’ support equipment such as dump trucks to and from job sites throughout the city as required. Operates with appreciable latitude for unreviewed action or decision.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS
: Must be able to read blueprints and manufacturer’s manuals. Requires visual and physical inspections of mechanical systems and have ability to detect unusual characteristics. Requires walking and the ability to climb ladders and stairs. Requires heavy lifting, stooping, balancing, crouching, and reaching.


TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
: May be exposed to fumes, odors, poor ventilation and changing weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent and (8) eight years’ experience in mechanical maintenance repairs. Must possess working experience in highly skilled specialize area such as refrigeration, industrial welding, diesel engine and transmission repairs, or industrial plumbing. Must possess and maintain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s license within (6) six months of hire as a condition of continued employment and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug testing rules.
