Description of Work
Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands? The NC State Parks has a Maintenance/Construction Technician II position available. This role is responsible for hands on work maintaining grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Work includes, custodial tasks, boundary line clearing, routine maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burn assistance and/or auto mechanics.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performing a variety of semiskilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
Operating large and small equipment and/or tools.
Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
Assisting in housekeeping.
May Supervise temporary and permanent staff, community service participates, and/or volunteers on special projects.
Position/Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions.
Must be ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation.
Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary.
Position is considered "Essential/Mandatory Staff" and required to work on adverse weather days, during park emergencies, and may be called to work on special events.
Within 90 days of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain:
Must meet DOA Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid Driver's License to drive a state vehicle.
Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain:
CPR Certification
Emergency Medical Responder Certification
Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications
Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park.
Management Prefers:
Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds maintenance equipment.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
AND
one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualification
May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, along with the state application.
