Description of Work

Salary Range: $39,677 - $69,426

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I, the Maintenance/Construction Technician III requires specialization in two or more technical trades in connection with maintenance of facilities, related equipment, and machinery. Position functions at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, or similar specializations. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Completing complex work assignments which require planning and/or coordinating multiple trade disciplines.
  • Working assigned tasks independently and referring very technical or unusual working problems to a supervisor for consideration.
  • Supervising offender workers engaged in semiskilled, unskilled, or of skilled maintenance assignments.
  • Ensuring compliance with work orders.
  • Maintaining equipment in proper working condition.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and machinery.

Necessary Special Requirement: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits .

The salary grade for this position is NC09 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Sampson Correctional Institution is located in Clinton, North Carolina and houses up to 462 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.

Minimum Education and Experience
