Kat + Mouse Photography is a high-end portrait studio in St. James, NY, specializing in transformative, luxury portrait experiences. Our clients—primarily women ages 35 to 60—come to us for more than a photo. They come for confidence, connection, and a guided journey that celebrates who they are.

Hair and makeup artistry is the first and most impactful part of that experience—and we’re looking for a warm, talented artist to join our team.

About the Role

We’re seeking a contract-based Makeup Artist to provide one-hour hair and makeup sessions for our clients before their portrait shoots. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a luxury, client-focused environment, has strong attention to detail, and brings a calm, supportive energy to every session.

Responsibilities

• Complete camera-ready makeup and light hairstyling within 1 hour per client
• Create a welcoming, relaxing, and empowering prep experience
• Perform light hairstyling: curling, straightening, teasing for volume (no cutting/blowouts)
• Maintain strict hygiene and cleanliness standards for all tools and products
• Provide light touch-ups as needed throughout the session
• Work with a variety of skin tones and ages confidently
• Follow brand protocols: warm, encouraging communication; neutral topics (no politics or religion); calm studio demeanor

Qualifications

• Must hold a current NY State Esthetician or Cosmetology license
• Proven experience as a professional makeup artist (portfolio or IG required)
• Experience with light hairstyling
• Understanding of what translates well on camera (flash and studio lighting)
• Strong interpersonal and listening skills
• Punctuality and professionalism are a must
• Freelance/contract availability on Fridays (and occasional Tue/Sat)

What We Offer

• $25-80/hour contract rate
• 3-hour minimum payment per session

· Applicants will be asked to perform a makeup trial prior to being assigned client jobs.
