Purpose of the Role
To provide strategic and operational leadership for academic programs, ensure high-quality teaching and learning, align programs with industry and regulatory standards, and establish and manage a Medical Advisory Committee to guide academic excellence and relevance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the academic vision, strategy, and execution across healthcare and allied health programs
- Ensure academic quality, consistency, and continuous improvement
- Align academic offerings with institutional goals, regulatory requirements, and market demand
2. Curriculum & Program Development
- Design, review, and update curricula aligned with:
- National regulatory requirements
- Industry and healthcare standards
- International best practices (where applicable)
- Introduce new healthcare and allied health programs based on workforce needs
- Integrate employability skills, ethics, and professional behavior into curricula
3. Faculty Training & Development
- Recruit, mentor, and develop faculty and instructors
- Design and implement faculty training and capacity-building programs
- Conduct academic audits, classroom observations, and performance reviews
- Promote modern teaching methodologies and learner-centered approaches
4. Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) – Establishment & Management
- Establish a Medical Advisory Committee comprising:
- Clinicians
- Subject matter experts
- Industry and hospital representatives
- Academic experts
- Define the committee’s terms of reference, roles, and governance structure
- Organize and facilitate regular MAC meetings
- Use MAC input to:
- Review curricula and training standards
- Ensure clinical relevance and industry alignment
- Advise on emerging healthcare trends and skills needs
- Document recommendations and ensure follow-up and implementation
5. Industry & Healthcare Linkages
- Develop partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers
- Support clinical exposure, internships, apprenticeships, and placements
- Engage industry stakeholders for curriculum input and program validation
6. Academic Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and accreditation standards
- Maintain academic policies, SOPs, and documentation
- Support inspections, audits, donor requirements, and reporting
7. Student Outcomes & Employability
- Oversee assessment, certification, and academic progression
- Monitor student performance, completion, and placement outcomes
- Incorporate employer and graduate feedback into program improvements
8. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with:
- Operations and Administration
- Finance and Grants
- Marketing and Business Development
- Contribute to donor proposals, EOIs, and program expansion initiatives
