JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Manager Critical Care Unit

JOB OVERVIEW: The Manager for the Critical unit has the responsibility and authority for managing operations and clinical practice of Critical Care unit. The Manager plans with other managers as well as Medical Staff to identify needs, trends, and forecast to provide quality patient care for medical patients requiring medical and surgical critical care and acute care medical surgical overflow.

REPORTS TO: Director Inpatient Services

PREREQUISITES:

  • Current Washington State RN licensure required,

  • Bachelor's degree required in related field. Four (4) years of relevant and applicable experience or a combination there of may substitute degree requirements. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years leadership or direct supervisory experience, with direct accountability for unit operations.

  • Minimum of five (5) years relevant clinical/technical experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrates leadership competence and professionalism, is results oriented and self-directed with dedication to their own self development.

  • Demonstrates integrity and trust is seen as direct and truthful; keeps confidences; does not blame others for his/her own mistakes or misrepresent him/herself for personal gain or protection.

  • Hires talented staff and establishes clear directions and work plans that are fair and challenging tasks and assignment. Coaches and manages coaches and manages the staff performance including promotions, and terminations.

  • Constructs compelling development plans and executes them; will take subordinates who need work and evaluates,

  • Schedules and attends staff/in-services meetings.

  • Performs walking rounds.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors compliance to policies, protocols, procedures, and standards.

  • Figures out the processes necessary to get things done; knows how to organize people and activities; focuses self and others on the critical priorities and quickly identifies roadblocks; knows what to measure and how to measure it; can see opportunities for synergy and integration; can simplify complex processes; gets more out of fewer resources.

  • Completes reports in a timely manner.

  • Maintains clinical skills and works clinically as necessary.
