Position Summary

The Communications Manager is responsible for developing creative, innovative ways to bring the communications strategy to life by telling the story of Food Lion's brand, strategy and culture to internal associates and external audiences. This role contributes significantly to the work of the Communications department by being a client-connected communicator and strategic storyteller who proactively sources news from assigned business areas and translates business wins into easy-to-understand content that educates, engages and inspires Food Lion's 82k associates to deliver business results. The individual serves as a client connected communicator to the SVP, HR and Communications, developing communications across multiple internal and external channels to position Food Lion as an employer of choice. The role has one direct report.

Principle duties and responsibilities
  • Develop communication strategies to proactively communicate the company's strategic business plan to more than 82,000 associates. This includes creating and leading strategic messaging content and executive communications across multiple communication platforms, and managing communications for significant business priorities, including Associate Engagement Survey, Open Enrollment, Associate Giving Campaign, etc. Consistently evaluate results and determine what worked well and why, as well as what can be improved in the future for increased results.
  • Supervise one associate. Develop and execute metrics strategy for key communications channels, analyzing data to determine opportunities for increased engagement. Serve as primary editor for intranet and e-board content. Oversee email testing process, ensuring accuracy of content and delivery of message to the right audiences.
  • Lead change management communications that have significant impact across the organization, adapting communications for various stakeholder audiences, determining tactics and ensuring consistency in brand voice.
  • Lead weekly editorial meetings, review and edit content to ensure consistency with brand voice, employ editorial judgement; manage and ensure timely delivery of communications according to schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Support quarterly and annual team meetings for SVP, HR and Communications, that provide updates on HR Leadership Team key priorities; deliver communications to support the HR strategy and position Food Lion as an employer of choice.
  • Develop and execute external visibility strategy to drive third party recognition to position Food Lion as an employer of choice.
  • Minimum 7-10 years in a communications role supporting multiple clients, developing and executing strategic communications plans and tracking results
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated mastery of AP Style; ability to understand target audiences and translate complex concepts into clear and concise messages

Basic Qualification
  • Minimum 7-10 years in a communications role supporting multiple clients, developing and executing strategic communications plans and tracking results
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated mastery of AP Style; ability to understand target audiences and translate complex concepts into clear and concise messages

Preferred Qualification
  • Prior people management experience
  • Experience in Fortune 100 companies working on a communications team
  • Experience in corporate retail or corporate grocery retail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint
  • Mastery of AP Style

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications or journalism.

  • Ability to determine and track metrics to measure effectiveness of communications plan against intended outcomes and business objectives
  • Flexible, collaborative, deadline driven
  • Strong sense of urgency with the ability to multitask effectively to bring projects to a successful closure in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working with senior leaders, influencing cross-functional teams across multiple departments
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
