Job Summary
The Manager, Compliance and Manufacturing Engineering leads a team of people that enable two significant disciplines for Crystal Group:
- Compliance: Responsible for compliance testing of Crystal Group products, such as testing for temperature, shock, vibration, humidity, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and other criteria. This includes designing and executing compliance testing, pre-qualification testing, operating and sustaining test equipment, test plan, procedures, and report generation, collaborating with Crystal Group customers and external third-party test laboratories, and other compliance-related activities.
- Manufacturing Engineering: This team is the primary liaison between Crystal Group Operations and Engineering, providing support for build and test production issues, creating and sustaining the processes and standards for internal Engineering and Operations-related documentation like top-level drawings, supporting design changes by processing engineering change requests and notices (ECN), and other activities.
The manager and team execute these activities in support for Crystal Group’s ruggedized solutions for server-class processing, high-speed networking and firewall, and data storage solutions for edge applications in air, sea, land, and space applications. The team collaborates and supports commercial and defense development customers based around the world.
For the Compliance scope, the manager is accountable for the full life cycle of Compliance, including:
- Oversee comprehensive testing programs for environmental compliance
- Manage the tactical and strategic planning for the Compliance staff and internal facility, including forecasting Compliance lab asset needs, maintenance, and replacement
- Act as the primary point of contact for compliance testing that is executed at third-party facilities
- Coordinate testing schedules, resource allocation, and cross-functional project timelines
- Ensure all testing activities adhere to established industry standards, protocols, and quality requirements
For the Manufacturing Engineering scope, the manager is accountable for ensuring that the team is comprised of the people, processes, and tools to support Crystal Group Operations in the build and test of all Crystal Groups products. Responsibilities include:
- Design, development, and implementation of processes, methods, procedures, and workflows for the entire production process
- Support production system optimization by evaluating products and driving solutions into the design and manufacturing areas
- Identifying and implementing production test solutions and procedures
- Identifying and implementing end of life EOL tasks on existing product
- Processing design changes for needs driven by Operations, customer, and Engineering
The Compliance and Manufacturing Engineering manager will engage with people across and outside of the company, including:

Essential Functions
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of Technicians, Designers, and Engineers, providing career guidance and professional development
- Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and manage team capacity and resource allocation
- Foster a collaborative culture focused on innovation, quality, and continuous improvement
- Recruit and onboard new staff
- Guide and influence the technical compliance direction for development projects and manufacturing technical processes
- Manage product developments for compliance with Crystal Group quality, manufacturability, and product design standards
- Drive continuous improvement of development, testing, and change management best practices
- Establish and maintain departmental management processes and standards
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including Engineering, Operations, Quality, Sales and Business Development, and others
- Develop compliance project timelines, allocate staff and resources, and ensure deliverables meet schedule and budget constraints
- Engage with customers on technical requirements and design solutions
- Responsible for compliance testing and process roadmap planning and technology
- Responsible for Engineering change process design, implementation, and sustainment
- Contribute to business development activities and proposal responses
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the Engineering organization
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience leading and engaging a motivated, energetic team
- Deep expertise in compliance engineering processes
- Experience with ruggedized system design for harsh operational environments
- Knowledge of military compliance standards, including MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-901, MIL-STD-461, and others, and commercial standards and systems engineering standards, including UL, IEC, ASTM, ISO 14001, ISO 26262, and others
- Experience with verification and validation methodologies, test planning, and requirements traceability
- Demonstratable experience with managing project technical cost, schedule, and performance using earned value metrics.
- Understanding of export control regulations including ITAR and EAR
- Excellent written and verbal communicator and presenter, and experience with collaborating and communicating with peers, leadership, customers, partners, and suppliers
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional, matrixed organizations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
- Minimum 8 years of engineering experience with at least 3 years in management or technical leadership roles
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex hardware products from concept to production
