This role provides all administrative and operational leadership of the Faculty Practice Clinic, a key part of the faculty recruitment/retention profile for the School of Dentistry. This includes full responsibility to lead and direct staff members, manage patient schedules for providers to maximize clinical productivity, act as the point person for all financial discussions with patients, engage in activities to market and promote the practice both at Marquette and in the community, and manage a significant annual operating budget within the clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Lead, direct, and take ownership of all aspects of the Faculty Practice Clinic including day-to-day operations, long-term planning, optimizing workflows and troubleshooting issues. Act as primary representative for the practice in all external and internal communications/interactions.
2. Develop provider schedules and ensure that patient appointments are set accordingly to maximize patient satisfaction and clinic productivity. Monitor faculty/provider activity to make sure it is within expectations and in accordance with agreed contractual terms. Counsel faculty/providers regarding how to increase patient base when needed.
3. Responsible for the supervision of staff which includes but is not limited to hiring, terming, disciplinary actions, performance management, staff development, etc
4. Oversee all patient relations, including patient inquiries and financial consultations/ payment discussions. Take full responsibility for all quality assurance in patient care and service.
5. Manage all financial operations of the practice, including complete oversight of a significant operating budget and all patient/insurance collections and receivables. Recommend and implement new procedures and strategies to improve clinic operations. Ensure that all physical spaces and equipment are maintained to create professional image and support productivity.
6. Develop and implement innovative marketing and practice promotion strategies to maximize clinic productivity.
7. Responsible for the supervision of student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student’s assignment, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school diploma
Minimum of 4 years of experience
Knowledge of dental terminology, dental procedures, and dental billing codes.
Prior supervisory experience.
Excellent problem solving, planning, organizational and customer service skills.
Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work and communicate with people from diverse populations.
Ability to work independently in a high-volume academic health care environment with little supervision and frequent interruptions.
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Microsoft Office proficiency.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Associate’s or vocational/ technical school degree preferably in Business or Dental Hygiene/Assisting
Prior experience with medical/dental coding, billing or claims processing.
Familiarity with dental practice management software.
Previous experience in an academic environment.
