Manager, Financial Reporting

Position Summary: Under the direction of the SVP of Finance and Controller, the Manager of Financial Reporting leads the general ledger and financial reporting functions, overseeing a team responsible for complex accounting activities and enterprise-wide financial reporting. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information, while driving continuous improvement in reporting processes, internal controls, and financial analytics.
The Manager serves as a key partner to Finance leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, providing insights that support strategic decision-making, operational performance, and regulatory compliance. This position combines strong technical accounting expertise with leadership, process optimization, and analytical capabilities.

Essential Position Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for internal leadership, health plan entities (HCP, HPN), and external auditors.
  • Manage and continuously improve the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, intercompany transactions, and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure all financial reporting is compliant with applicable accounting standards and organizational policies.
  • Review and approve journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies, including out-of-balance conditions and inter-fund adjustments.
  • Establish, document, and enforce strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Partner with internal and external auditors to support audits, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and responses to audit inquiries.
  • Lead the development, enhancement, and automation of financial and operational reporting, dashboards, and analytics.
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with Operations and other departments to provide financial guidance on current and proposed initiatives.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes by monitoring performance, analyzing variances, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Partner with Information Technology and Business Intelligence teams to leverage historical claims data in support of financial modeling.
  • Evaluate proposed provider contract terms by modeling reimbursement scenarios and validating rates prior to execution.
  • Monitor contract performance by comparing actual reimbursements to contracted terms, identifying underpayments or revenue leakage.
  • Analyze and model the financial impact of transitioning from fee-for-service to value-based or risk-based arrangements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop general ledger accounting staff, fostering a high-performance, accountable team environment.
  • Provide training and guidance to enhance staff competencies in accounting, financial reporting, and analytical techniques.
  • Manage workload distribution and ensure deliverables meet high standards for quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration within the Finance team.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of financial operations.
  • Maintain ownership over both recurring and ad hoc reporting deliverables, ensuring consistency and reliability.
  • Prepare and present special analyses, reports, and surveys for leadership, regulators, and external stakeholders.
  • Lead or contribute to system implementations, upgrades, and financial reporting automation initiatives.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to interpret and apply accounting standards.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate data into insights.
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, with an audit-focused mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization, including executive leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), with advanced Excel skills required.
  • Experience with SQL and data querying tools (e.g., SQL Server Management Studio) preferred.
  • Experience with ERP financial systems required (preferably Sage Intacct or PeopleSoft).
Training/Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred but not required.
  • 7–10 years of progressive experience in corporate accounting and financial reporting, including supervisory experience.
  • Prior experience in healthcare finance, particularly managed care, strongly preferred

Base Compensation; $130,000-$150,000 annually
