Job Description and Duties

Do you love underwriting? Are you looking for an opportunity to motivate and inspire a team? Look no further! This position will report to the Pleasanton location (Greater Bay Area Region).
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Underwriting Manager, the incumbent will:
  • Assist in managing the underwriting function of a Regional Office to achieve Budget Plan objectives in compliance with corporate and regulatory advisories, guidelines and procedures and through the effective use of available resources
  • Effectively manage and develop staff and ensure employee engagement is maintained
  • Interact across other regions, departments, and business segments to meet operational needs and enterprise objectives

The successful candidate for this position will: manage a unit consisting of underwriting and policy servicing functions in compliance with corporate underwriting and marketing advisories, guidelines, and procedures. Oversee the acquisition, development and profitability and retention of an assigned book of business. Recruit, hire, train, develop, appraise, and discipline subordinate staff. This position will report to the Pleasanton location (Greater Bay Area Region).

Plan, organize, direct, and control the operations of the assigned Underwriting unit. Contribute to the Policy Operations and Regional Office management team. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with the broker community and monitor broker trends. Uphold principles of integrity in the workplace. Provide quality customer service in a timely manner.

Business travel may occasionally be from overnight to five days in duration and may include, but not be limited to, plane, bus, van, taxi, or car. Travel to various work sites and locations for training and/or meetings may be necessary and work hours may vary.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

Selected candidate(s) hired may be required to attend in-person Onboarding at our Vacaville office with expenses for attendance paid by State Fund.

Special Requirements

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee’s monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.
