Description:
Richner Communications seeks a Managing Editor - Specialty Content to expand our audience and revenue. You’ll guide reporters in breaking news, social media, newsletters, interactive storytelling, AI, SEO, regional coverage, special sections, and opinion content.
Key Responsibilities
● Digital Strategy: Ensure the team is implementing best practices for digital breaking news, social media, newsletters, AI and SEO.
● Planning: Review and launch planning tools that are used to organize the publishing of content for both print and digital and the approaches being used to create accountability for the different aspects of digital work that needs to be completed.
● Regional stories: Coordinate regional story planning across the newsroom ensuring teams are creating impactful journalism that pairs with digital elements and is easily localized by each newspaper.
● Special sections and features: Oversee the special sections and features team guiding the products, content and newsletters that team produces.
● Opinion: Coordinate the Opinion sections lineup and content and write insightful editorials and/or columns on topics of local and regional interest.
● Interactives: Head up our interactive storytelling efforts by leading the team that’s working on the data strategy helping execute consistent and impactful interactive presentations in our digital stories.
● Technology: Serve as a leader on newsroom technology, including an upcoming CMS change.
● Training and development: Teach and mentor staff on digital tools, audience engagement techniques, and data-driven storytelling.
Qualifications
● Experience: 5-7 years in content creation and leadership positions
● Technical Skills: Proven expertise in SEO, social media strategies, analytics, and content management systems.
● Leadership: Strong track record of guiding teams and managing complex projects under tight deadlines.
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field (advanced degree a plus).
● Attributes: Excellent communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for delivering high-quality journalism in a fast-paced environment
● Office: Must be in-office five days a week and willing to work weekends when necessary
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
