Manicurists are responsible for cleaning and shaping guests’ fingernails and toenails. They also apply nail varnish and may decorate nails. Salon Manicurists typically rely on repeat business and regular customers, so they must have excellent inter-personal communication skills.
- Determines guests’ individual needs by conferring with them in detail prior to beginning the treatment.
- Assesses the condition of guests’ hands, removes dead skin from them and massages hands.
- Removes previously applied nail polish, using liquid nail polish remover and swabs
- Cleans guests’ nails in soapy water, using swabs, files and orange sticks.
- Softens nail cuticles with water and oil, pushes back cuticles using cuticle knife and trims them using scissors or clippers.
- Treats nails to report and improve strength and resilience by wrapping or providing treatment to nail biters.
- Shapes and smoothens ends of nails, using scissors, files and emery boards.
- Brushes powder and solvent onto nails and attaches paper forms to tips of guests’ finger nails to support and shape artificial nails and also to maintain nail appearance and to extend nails.
- Removes forms and shapes and smoothens the nail edges using abrasive rotary wheel.
- Roughens surfaces of fingernails, using abrasive rotary wheel.
- Polishes nails, using powdered polish and buffer.
- Applies undercoat and clear or coloured polish onto nails with brush.
- Maintains and sanitizes tools and the work environment in accordance with the Business Unit’s Standard Operating Policies and Procedures.
- Maintains a safe working environment for both guests and staff. Identifies any areas of concern and reports these to the Senior Manicurist for remedial action to be taken.
- Maintains guests’ confidentiality at all time.
- Attends training sessions as directed by the (Salon) Manager.
- Provides demonstrations to trainees as required.
- Advises management of any faulty equipment.
- Adheres to the Company’s Grooming Guidelines as set out in the Company’s HR’s Policies and Procedures.
- Deals professionally with any customer complaints to ensure guests remain happy with the Salon’s services. Reports same to the Senior Manicurist/Salon Manager to ensure that senior management is aware of any issues.
