Job Description

Job Title: CNC I

Reports To: Shop Supervisor / Lead

SUMMARY

Supports production operations by performing low to moderate machining operations. This position typically works under direct supervision, operating one or more types of machine tools such as mills, drill presses, lathes, hobber, broach, and others.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Reads and interprets specific machining instructions from blueprints, part, and machine drawings.
• Sets up basic tooling and executes basic programs.
• Operates a broad range of production work involving close tolerances that are somewhat involved and have a low to moderate degree of difficulty.
• Performs other secondary operations such as stamping part numbers and deburring during machine cycle times.
• Inspects machine parts to ensure they meet proper size, shape, or tolerance specifications from the print or other instructions using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools and devices.
• Performs routine operator maintenance.
• Assists in other areas and performs additional tasks as needed.
• Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to first article inspection with limited supervision.
• Performs all operations with the highest regard to personal safety and the safety of others, and at a level of performance acceptable to the supervisor.
• Responsible for housekeeping in the general area.
• As apparent or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, written instructions, manuals, and safety rules. Candidates with additional shop skills who can work in other areas of the shop are preferred. Proficiency in the use of forklifts, cranes, slings, chains, hooks, and other appropriate devices or equipment is preferred. Required to handle the products safely and efficiently, training will be provided.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Some training will be provided.

AUTHORITY

The person performing this job has authority to stop the process to initiate corrective action if the process and/or equipment is not working properly.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, crouch, and walk. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job there are some required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Protective eyewear and steel toe boots are required and are reimbursed based on the company’s PPE reimbursement policy. The noise level in the work environment requires hearing protection, which is provided.
