Manufacturing Engineer

Job purpose

  • Identify, develop, and implement new manufacturing technology in order to improve all aspects of existing manufacturing processes.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develops manufacturing processes with the primary focus being operator safety by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing robust manufacturing processes through application of poka-yoke solutions to avoid quality issues, and where necessary, designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Improves manufacturing productivity by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout in accordance with Kubota's KPS Principles.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Manages project related activities in a transparent way for new programs or changes to existing programs. Scope including but not limited to timing, budgets, design details, team coordination, quotations, vendor procurement coordination.
  • Prepares technical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Supports manufacturing to achieve safety, productivity and quality targets through process design, optimization projects and Kaizen initiatives.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Facilitates with maintenance the setup of preventative maintenance initiatives for new equipment following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
  • Maintains product and process database by writing computer programs; entering data.
  • Develops design records for tooling and fixtures via CAD applications and stores records accordingly.
  • Completes implementation of new or revised processes by training technicians.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by supporting other team members as capacity issues arise.
  • A core component of this role will be to lead initial technology installations paired with training, documentation, and guidance for others to thrive with the new technology.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • Experience dealing with complex problems, solid communication skills (verbal and written), displaying effective leadership, versed in manufacturing methods and procedures, understands manufacturing quality, and proficient presenting technical information (verbal and written).
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Vault/Inventor or equivalent.
  • Basic understanding of Industry 4.0 Technologies, and/or automation.
  • Willingness to travel within Georgia 10-15% paired with other domestic travel of less than 10%.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel internationally as required.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master of Science in Engineering or Analytics is a plus.
  • Yaskawa, Fanuc, and/or equivalent robotics programming.
  • Working knowledge of Python or similar programming experience.
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing Principles.

Working conditions

Ability to work in extreme heat and cold. Ability to work in a loud environment.

Physical requirements

Ability to stand/ be on your feet for long periods of time and walk throughout the shop floor. Ability to sit at a desk. Ability to use hands/ fingers. Ability to reach with arms. Ability to operate power and hand held tools.
