Manufacturing Engineer – Automation & PLC Specialist
Location: Concord, North Carolina
Salary: $90,000 – $100,000 (DOE)
I'm currently partnering with a well-established manufacturing business in Concord, NC, who are looking to bring on a Manufacturing Engineer with strong PLC and automation expertise. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands-on technical work and mentoring others within a high-performance engineering environment.
In this position, you will take a lead role in PLC programming, automation systems, and equipment optimisation, while also supporting broader manufacturing engineering initiatives. You will work cross-functionally with Maintenance and Engineering teams to drive process improvements, troubleshoot issues, and implement new technologies.
You will also act as a technical mentor, helping to develop the capabilities of other engineers in control systems and machine integration.
Lead PLC programming, debugging, and troubleshooting for automated equipment
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers on control systems and integration
Investigate equipment and process issues, identify root causes, and implement countermeasures
Develop and revise procedures, and deliver training to minimise operational risk
Collaborate on process design, optimisation, and new technology implementation
Support continuous improvement initiatives, including waste reduction and efficiency gains
Contribute to tooling, equipment design, and manufacturing system development
Participate in projects, new product launches, and production planning activities
Ensure compliance with safety standards, ISO requirements, and quality systems
5–7 years' experience in manufacturing engineering or automation
Strong expertise in PLC programming and industrial automation systems
Experience with CNC machining, injection molding, and/or assembly lines
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex equipment and drive root cause analysis
Knowledge of Toyota Production System (TPS), Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies
Familiarity with ISO standards and quality management systems
Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers is highly desirable
Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or similar) preferred
