Manufacturing Engineer Intern

Key Areas of Responsibility (Answerable for the following end results)

  • Assist with reducing equipment downtime and improving processes through data collection and basic troubleshooting under guidance.
  • Help update or create Process Flows, SOPs, and work instructions.
  • Participate in time studies and basic labor analysis with coaching from engineers.
  • Support layout improvements, small projects, and error‑proofing tasks.
  • Learn and assist with Lean principles, problem‑solving, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Help collect, organize, and document engineering change information.
  • Shadow engineers to gain exposure to CAD layouts, process development, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Complete assigned tasks and document work clearly.
  • Follow all company safety guidelines and participate in safety training.

Limits of Authority

  • Must report issues that could impact quality, safety, or customer satisfaction.
  • May identify problems and offer suggestions but cannot independently approve engineering changes.
  • All changes to processes or layouts must be reviewed and approved by supervising engineers.

Basic Education, Experience and Skills Required

  • Currently a Sophomore or Junior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing or mechanical processes (coursework acceptable).
  • Exposure to CAD tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and willingness to learn.

Internal Training (Minimum Requirements)

  • Safety Training

o Safety orientation and plant floor safety training.

o Introductory PLC training and shadowing.

o Basic controls hardware overview (sensors, wiring, HMI screens, etc.).

o Engineering change process overview.

o Hands‑on exposure with controls engineers and maintenance technicians.

Health, Safety and Physical Demand Requirements

  • Normal amount of sitting and standing, average mobility to move around an office and plant environment, able to conduct normal amount of work on a computer.
